    Poem Commentary

Some words are from a poem that i read long ago..I forget the author..I borrowed his title.. a deer surviving a day of hunters is the story...unrelated to Tolkien

    the lonely mountain

    Somewhere on the lonely mountain

in the shadows of the Aspen

i hear only the echoes of human voices

    i breathe softly

    across from my sheltered view

    is water

    and danger

    i observe and listen

within the wall of the autumn colors

within in the shades gold yellow and green

as the last of the sun’s rays

enter the depths of the Aspen

i depart through the whisper of leaves

into depths of the deepening shadows

as the shadows fold into the purple evening

i found my place to rest

    nothing remains

    but tracks

A beautiful peaceful autumn image. I remember similar scenes myself when hiking through woods in the fall for no reason but the solitary pleasure it gave. Love the lines "I hear only the echoes of human voices", as well as; "nothing remains but the tracks"... a fitting ending. W.
