Expecting
Oh you're twenty five,
Been married for years.
Are you guys expecting yet?
Best start grinding those gears!
You think I haven't tried?
You think this is a joke?
Maybe I want one
And my body can't sustain that yolk.
Yes I'm expecting
You to shut the fuck up!
We're expecting more
Than for you to disrupt.
I'm expecting my body to fail,
I'm expecting low wages for now,
I'm expecting heartbreaking attempts,
And my mother to have a cow.
Don't ask me about a baby.
I'd have one if I could.
I'm expecting social graces
If only you would.
But we are having kids.
Just not the traditional way.
I'm licensing to parent
Those who could not stay.
Despite no bun in the oven,
No little me and him,
I find myself often resting
Over my stomach on a whim.
My brain and body know what's coming,
They understand we're expecting.
Even if I never carry you
We are still connecting.
I find myself nesting
and building your room.
Just planned for fourteen
Not straight from the womb.
My breasts have swelled
And my periods have all but ceased.
You're still my baby
Even if you're not of me released.
We're expecting.
We're gonna be mom n dad.
We're expecting.
Just in ways they never had.
