Child of Longing
Child of Longing
Creeping up behind me
She tugs at my shirttail
Sadness brimming her eyes
I long to wrap her in a hug
Holding her close
I smooth out the tangles
Wipe the spilling tears
Give her a smile of love
My loneliness lingers
Nearby, never far from the surface
Her need reaches out
Holding on, holding back
The child I was, still hovers
She keeps me grounded
And real...
When I want to believe
She is there,
Sad eyes full of mystery
Spilling longing like bread crumbs
On the journey
