Ode to The Sea Wolf by Jack London
Spiraling downward,
The mayhem abusing your mind.
"Get cracking or you'll be lost in our tracks"
"It breathes black but its shadows shine light"
Voices scream in your ears
Each one trying to be heard over the others.
"You've lost your philosophy"
"The danger is common sense"
Your mind turns to putty
As the voices beat upon the drums in your ears.
"It's a Cutter but can't you see the Steam?"
"It's fragile like diamonds, strong as glass"
Through your eyes you see the highlights
Like on a screen but it blinds.
"She turned words into thought, not thought into words"
"It was preciously said, precious not previous"
It tears your mind to shreds
Destroying all thoughts that it comes by.
"L is for Wolf, Death, and all; XXXX is more fun"
"I's instead of my not 40 "I"s"
Until there no longer is a word,
Nor a glimpse or a thought,
And attention span has become
That of three times re-read and forgotten yet.
