JOURNEYS FROM THE SOUTH
Pleasurely reflecting on one's experiences in art and culture,
Tracing the journies from the south being victims of a time,
When racial hate and prejudice was blatantly no crime,
Pushing for equality at work play and school,
Seeking social justice and harmony was against the rule.
Coming to Chicago and New York, jazz and artistic blues,
A phenominal sensation, when you made the news,
Southern women of beauty and loveliness,
Pleasantly polite and kind, way above the rest.
With southern gentlemen on the scene, what a combination,
Keeping our audience in festive spirits, what a dispensation?
Keeping the arts afire, we seek after southern flavor,
The accent the mannerisms, the food and it's savor,
An appreciation of the arts of southern black folks,
The musical drama the theatrics and jokes.
The theater of southern life stories are nice!
The seasoned meats, cuisine of sweet yams,
red beans and rice,
Welcome north ye southern men, the guitar,
drums and saxaphone creates panorama
Coming with theater, the food
and the drama.
Joy and laughter in a festive mode,
Well tailored suites and enjoying the food.
So appreciative of your style,
The fun and laughter just makes me smile,
Looking back at history, it turned out so great,
For staying in the south meant a different fate,
Northern and southern culture combined styles,
Creates happiness for miles and miles,
Jazz and Blues have made many stars,
And made people better unified by far!
