The Queens Repose
Listen softly
With quickest ear
A tiny voice
Trills in song
Then chirps
In pure joy
As her mistress
Into the chamber
Enters
Happy is
The tiny dragon
(Small
As a bumblebee…
But far wiser)
Buttercup flies
And causes
All the lights
To be lit
From Chandelier
To the clusters
Of tapers
By the bed Royal
In admiration
Buttercup glows golden
Hovering
Over the bedding
Warming the bed
Below
Singing her mothers lullaby:
((As the pixy queen
Comes in
From her bath,
In fine array for sleeping,
Slips under the covers
As her servants
Put out the candles all
And exit
To their other
Duties and rest.))
"No mousey footfall,
Nor moth wing flutter…
No mosquito whine
No peepers stutter
In this dark night
I will be your star…
Till the Day Dragon of the East
Devours the night
And all
Its deepest shades"
(Her mistress falls to sleep:
Smiling at the song,
And anticipation
Of her husband Merlin’s return…)
Listen softly…
