Lost to Addiction
In our lives a gift from heaven
He came to us at age of two
Happily he laughed and played
In our hearts love for him grew
I watched him grow and learn
I taught him to drive a stick
I was there at all his sports
Cheered at the perfect game he pitched
What happened to happier times?
Days always of fun and play
He returned to a drug haven
A city park, a place he's gone to stay
My heart has an aching hurt
For those good times I long
There’s a big hole in my world
He would not admit he was wrong
Over 50 days I gave and gave
The drugs must have more to give
Over 50 days we became close
Now he has found another place to live
I have given him what I could
A car, an education, my name
Logic tells me I did all I should
My heart doesn’t tell me the same
As a crumpled piece of paper
Set afire and burned to ash
A life wadded up and tossed
Thrown away in a heap of trash
A baby girl he held in his arms
His sparkle in her sweet eyes
He gazed on her smile one last time
Sadly I just break down and cry
