Little Boy
He sat arms folded around dirtied knees
The little boy who lived amongst the trees.
Snot bubbled from his nose
Looking awkward in ill-fitting clothes.
Running from his eye a long streak
Clearing grime from dirtied cheek.
Hair too long partially covered face
Looking down at his shoe without lace.
A rip meandered from his right pocket
Eyes set deep in hungered socket.
Hands covered in hardened mud
Little boy looking not as little boys should.
Unwashed hair held many a burr
As little boy rested against mighty fir.
Scrawny arms protruded from colourless shirt
Face too old showing a life of hurt.
Little boy sat resting in the shade
As daylight slowly began to fade.
Eyes that caught little boy quickly turned
His soul on theirs for ever burned.
And when those eyes turned for a second look
A story they forever took.
For the little boy had faded away
As night claimed the ethereal day.
