I Had a Chat Today
I had a little chat today with someone I know well
I told her all the things she did that made her life pure "hell"
She didn't stop me as I spoke, she let me have my say
Repeating all the things she'd done so poorly through the day
I spoke of chances she had missed, mistakes that she had made
Reminding her that she'd been wrong and hadn't "made the grade"
Her head bowed lower with each word, the guilt so plain to see
Depression overtook her, as she listened quietly
She looked up and with just a glance she put me in my place
Reflecting in the mirror I could see it was MY face
Then whispering so gently in my ear I heard Him say
"My daughter, I forgive you, as I have along the way
I never hold a grudge about the deeds that you have done
I thought I'd proven that to you by giving my own Son"
So looking in that mirror I decided then and there
That my own words betrayed the gift that God had come to share
The past is passed, forgiven I, forever and a day
It was not of my doing, since I'm merely made of clay
But it's a Higher Calling to become what I should be
The biggest enemy I've found in this life has been ME
I told her all the things she did that made her life pure "hell"
