THE SEARCH
1.
I am looking for someone who does not exist:
a dream lover to unfold in layers.
Anything less than absolute perfection is below my standards,
and completely unacceptable.
2.
My telephone is discolored with dust.
3.
I have searched in vain from the highest mountain to the lowest valley.
I have yet to find the one who stills my heart.
4.
Like a book that has been read to tatters, my heart is ripped and torn from endless searching;
shattered like a mirror I have stared into for too long;
crumpled like the letters I still can't bring myself to throw away.
5.
Is he, at this moment, also searching for me?
6.
How many miles must I travel alone before I find my way to him?
Calloused feet will slow the chase.
7.
Yet in spite of the distance,
and the uncertainties that plague my mind,
love has forged a chain that binds us,
though we may not have even met:
our unity is our destiny.
8.
In search of love I waste my youth, afraid of growing old alone.
9.
Someone should have told me that fairy tales do not come true.
I am looking for someone who does not exist:
a dream lover to unfold in layers.
Anything less than absolute perfection is below my standards,
and completely unacceptable.
