WOW - so this is what all the hooplah is about? 20 something people who like a poem have caused this much problems? LOL Its kind of like the government... You have 1 guy that can basically pass a law 308 million people don't like. I wonder if we need to behead those 20 people..... just a thought. -Papa Paczki |

RE: Adios Amigo'sPapa this site runs fine, and there is a large percentage of people that are perfectly happy here (I am one of them), so don't take any of these complaints to heart. |

From what I've seen so far, the main complaints are; -the contest is run by cliques. if it only takes 20-30 votes to win, then the clique theory is is ''BS'' -the ''undesirables'' are winning, and the self proclaimed ''poet Gods'' aren't. I think these people who aren't happy need to just get more proactive. Thanks, I never get in a tizzy over anything like this. I was just trying to be a comedian again. lol Yes, I agree, cliques aren't winning the contest, people who promote their poems are. And the ones with horrifying poems are promote theirs aren't winning either. -Papa Paczki |

RE: Adios Amigo'sAt the specific request of one of OP's most respected contributors, I have been asked to express my opinion of this "thread." I have never made a secret of my opinion regarding the contest. But if there is anyone who really values my opinion enough to request its addition to this Forum, I will repeat it here and now: I am opposed to any contest that pits one poem/one poet against another. I think it should be abolished altogether, although I see no reason why certain poems shouldn't be "recommended" or "commended" on a weekly basis. But to declare this one or that one "THE WINNER" is a counter productive mechanism. I do not enter my pieces in the contest (oh yeah, I know, there was one exception), and do not plan to do so in the future. |

And OP can also do charity donations more, and they can afford a marketing team this way to help all of us. All poets will have books on thier profiles. Yours, your friends, and any other books. Your friends can add yours as well Create space, will see we have 400, 000 poets that want to create a book, but they dont know how, so createspace will come to OP and have two experts in PDF making, and cover making, one for the day shift and one for the night. Createspace can set up a profile, and they will have a section in the thread, Call'd Creating Books with Createspace.com, something like that, then the two createspace employess can school, and teach us, all to know about book making, they also can help each poet in pms, and so forth also in the thread for that section each Poet can set up there own thread for their book process, in a step by step thing. We have so many poets here, and they all want to be in a book. This will also give no reason why we all cant get books to the world, and Poets have no reason to complain, Poets can even co-publish as well. Createspace can help all of us, step by step, in a book format, e-book format, and kindle, they have book cover designers, and they have people there that will compete to do your cover. So tell us what you think aboutr having a professional team from createspace coming to OP, and helping you launch your book to the world??? this is a good idea. it does benefit a lot of people on the site. uhm... i'm not exactly the best person to ask about this kind of stuff, but i was asked for my opinion... a lot of people on this site want to be either published or just want to write. we could get these "createspace" people to come and help out those who are serious about publishing, but i also wonder, what about the poets that wish so badly to be published, but dont have the money to do so? could OP do something to help if the community thinks the poet is deserving? and i do mean the Community. if you havent noticed, all i see here in this thread are more of the Greater members of the community, but not the Greater percentage. the donations we may/may not get could help with them... @Wordslinger: like i said, this is a very good idea, and papa should consult the site-owners about it... but in the end, this decision is theirs. setting up an affiliation, as you said, with these websites is a big decision. |

When talking publishing, its important to realize something.... You don't have to pay. You only pay if you are self publishing your book. There are many publishing houses out there that take manuscript submissions. They'll pay for the book design, and publishing. A lot of people here have published thru PublishAmerica. They're sort of a hybrid. You don't pay them, they do all the leg work to publish the book, but then you have to promote it yourself. Your book won't show up in the local store, but it will be online for sale at Amazon and maybe some other retailer's web sites. Which is actually the case for normal publishers too in many cases. Bottom line... if you think you have a quality manuscript worthy of being published, shop it around before you pay to publish. -Papa Paczki |

RE: Adios Amigo'sWordslinger- the great poetic wheels have long been spinning, the challenge is getting them to spin in the same direction at the same time with a common goal and united as once voice it can be done. Once the waggon gets over the hump and starts gaining momentum as itr rolls down the hill, watch out, we can blow the doors off this thing!!! The key part is getting the waggon over the hump, it takes more than one person, but together we can get the job done. I love the idea of the createspace affliliation, I think it can deffintely open the doors to the possibility of change. Some poets wonder why bother to be published, what does it matter??? It matters, poetry has long been an avenue for social change. The poets of old knew this, they were not legends just because they knew how to fit a bunch of words into a well constructed box that ryhmes. They became legends because they were dreamers, visionaries, idea men, philosophers, thinkers, they help to ignite a spark of social change. This change can only occur if there are people willing to stepup and be heard, thier voices to be spoken, thier ideas to be enlightened into action. Poetry is an avenue for people to gain perspective in the world they live, to expand thier limited horizons. When you open the door to one's inner mind, emotions, and spirit, you allow a person thew ability to really grow, and with growth comes real change. Sometimes the biggest change comes from the smallest of places. So lets support OP, wordslingger, the God father of OP- PAPA, and the owners of OP, and the rest of the OP community in uniting as one voice that can be heard for generations to come. It all starts here, now, today... Speak up and let your voice be heard! Purity of the soul, journey well!!! with grace and humility ANGEL |

I do not enter my pieces in the contest (oh yeah, I know, there was one exception), and do not plan to do so in the future. I'm sorry to see another talented writer leave this site. And please, please, spare me the vitriol I've just read from a few who feel compelled to defend their positions by calling names and spewing insults that really have no bearing. I know each is entitled to one's opinion, but it seems when one expresses an opinion that does not agree with others' he/she should not be pelted with such blows. Hey, it's CHRISTMAS!!! for god's sake! Surely, we all have enough charity in our hearts to refrain from making hurtful remarks. Richard Salassi Hello Richard- I'm glad you've spoken up here. The site needs different opinions in order to improve. I agree with what you are saying about choosing one's creativity over another's, but there is a limited amount of space in the book, so there must be some method of selection. Another thing, this thread has over 1300 views. Many people are watching this thread, but so few are speaking up. You say you've been asked to speak for others, I think it would help to know how many people are unhappy about the way things are. |

RE: Adios Amigo'sI, too, was asked for my input on this thread and I will give it. First the contest; it is nice to have a chance to be in an anthology or to be selected for publication and a wider readership; we write to be read and if you want popularity you need to be widely read. As to how you select a “winner” this is solely up to the owners of the site and their decision but leave a site with only 13 friends and then to complain is rude and ignorant. I don’t know Ed nor have I read his poetry and I cannot read 40 plus thousand poets even if I wish to, with all honesty. |

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
