Betrayed
Although the house upon the hill was in need of loving care,I knew upon first sight of it there was something grander there
I started slowly, stone by stone and soon I saw the start,
This lonely house upon the hill was capturing my heart.
I worked so hard for many years
I cried and cried a thousand tears
The end result would surely be
A happy place for me to be.
The house was nearly finished, the flowers were in bloom,
The windows were all lighted, it drove away the gloom.
A fire burned upon the hearth, that warmed me to my bones.
This would be a lovely place for me to call my home.
A few more stones would do it, the house would soon be done,
I'd move right in and settle down, the battle would be won.
But as I stood a distance, and gazed upon the place,
A shadow came upon the hill and settled in my space..
I tried and tried to make it go, I begged I pleaded, I screamed,
It seemed the house betrayed me then, it wanted her it seemed.
So lonely now and sick at heart, I stand and gaze once more.
The lighted windows now look cold, not cozy like before.
No warmth for me from hearth and home, no safety here for me.
The shadow now had sole control, the house has chosen she!
I'll never find another house to turn into my home,
So now I roam on through this world, lost and all alone!
