Rêves Rouge
How red the hibiscus broad petals bloom!
They hint of your paradise, adorning my room
Locked as they are, away, far away
Resilient and brilliant, resplendent as day.
Those green open parasols, how sturdy of stem
Are your flowers for me, or all just for them?
The last lonely hummingbird stalls past the glass
Hungrily making a ghost wintertime pass.
The whir of his wings his prism'd displays
How the blur of commotion, speeds up the days
Days until nesting, when eggs magically crack
Days even hibiscii know warm summer’s back.
Oh, greening, fair greening, my resident shrub
In all of this dreaming, let me touch at the nub
The warm winds bring rains in true paradise
While watering my heart in my lover’s eyes.
While there you stand witness, and grandly portray
The colors that tropics are wont display
Let me kiss your fair petals, caress softly your flowers
Till waking erases my heart’s captive hours.
