Friends
We had each other
and each other’s back,
We shared a common space
with common mind;
We were friends.
We took our time
and never felt the lack,
We chilled and spilled,
found respite from the grind;
We were friends.
There simple trust
found reciprocity,
And navigated mood
on Huck Finn’s river raft;
We were friends.
Grief reminded
of life’s velocity,
And so we sang,
until somebody laughed;
We were friends.
