Apogee
On the winds of eternity
Arriving late, face aglow
Your warm breath scattering
The frost from my lips, my heart
You and that tag-a-long cherub
Who plays with arrows
The way some folks pander love
Shots leaving the quiver, leaving me quiver
Star dust shimmers your curls, your cheeks
Glitter flash sparks shooting out
Eyes your candle lit firework show
Until I am wrapped, I am rapt
Sizzling snow slides off your skin
Dancing as it melts
Glancing, as resolve melts
Left stolen from myself to run another’s errand.
I wanted to leave first
Before I’d ask the pith of it of you
No, I’d stay to pray it fast from you
Before inescapably too late
And I am caught up
As blest Elijah upon his whirlwind
But your fiery chariot has no wheels
And your steeds abandoned reins
Wild as a comet’s vacuum gust
Turning only after apogee
They run away with you
Unbridled as they transport me
And in your car, my face burning from the rush
I taste one golden moment
Slaking down some hidden thirst
That will never quite be quenched
But, I’ll remember all you shared
Top down, hair following on spring trails
Headed toward Eden, we somehow veered
Darkening embers, returning, fracturing into dust.
