    Poem Commentary

    This is just a memory of a gassy infant in Korea with Uno, a young inexperienced mother.  I was working nights and had to go hush him if i wanted any sleep during the day.  They lived upstairs, she would shower and I would calm him and somehow I bonded. 

    "SWEET BABY JAMES"


    HELLO AGAIN,
    MY GASSY LITTLE FRIEND
    SO SMALL AND WHITE AND SHINY

    OH. FOR A HAPPY FACE
    A SMILE, A TRACE,
     CALMED DOWN AND NOT  SO WHINY.

    GOODBYE FOR NOW, 
    SWEET INFANT BOY,
    AS I LEAVE YOU TO YOUR MOTHER.
     
    NEXT TIME YOU SEE ME,
    AGAIN YOU'LL FREE ME.
    I HOPE YOUR TOOTHLESS SMILE 
    WILL LAST A WHILE.

    I'D WALK A MILE,
    TO SEE JUST A TRACE
     OF JOY ON YOUR FACE.
