"Polar Bear evolution"
It's born, its mother sleeps
tiny, soft and sparkling white
they grow rapidly to full might.
My farm girl curiosity wonders
for a gorge or a mate
would a polar bear migrate?
Huge appetites go along
with that advertisement and song,
huge appetites unsatisfied
and the pain of hunger leads to suicide.
He is in the wheel of life,
he lives in our nation,
I say lets teach him about migration!
Show him again
where the salmon spawn for him now.
Give him a place to go and a trail and a how.
And if like the rest,
he goes before his nap but once a year
to feast with a family or two.
I say he will grow fat again like you and i
and the whales do.
It is a ritual as old as time
to gather to fatten for winter.
To tolerate during a time of plenty
an argument or a splinter.
I say give them a season or two
they will adjust slowly, at first just a few.
Then they will bring along one or two
as mating seasons will do.
Then, when he is fit and healthy
against the Grisly, he'll be wealthy.
Then you will once again see
fat baby polar bears and fierce papa's to be
on our nightly TV.
