No More The Forest Green
I am the forest green,
Ten thousand years and more I stood,
And gave you air to breath.
But now alone my family all gone,
To a new and more tranquil land to feed.
They heard you coming from afar and left,
No more to eat my ripe and luscious fruits,
Nor spread the seeds that are my sole existence.
But now from my canopy high above you,
Through morning mist, I see you snaking round the rivers edge,
Gnawing at my soul.
How long before my heart you take,
And leave me a barren dust bowl great.
How long before your metal yellowed termites, up-turn my soul,
And leave me in scorching sun to bleach.
How long before I am,
No more the forest green.
