Nature's Provision
Distant thunder rumbles promise
Lending voice to nature's tears
Lightning's children, dancing shadows
Dance to rhythm darkness hears
With gusty, cold wind moaning
Frosty bite of Fall's chill breath
I sit in dreamy expectation
Seeking, searching, awaiting...death
As darkness fades into the dawning
My eyes trace movement on leafy floor
With hammering heart, I still my breathing
Is this the moment I've been waiting for?
I watch a buck as he feeds in earnest
Senses dulled by impending storm
Lullabied by the constant thunder
Relaxing vigil on a rain-swept morn
I hear the thumping of my pulse
Above the storm's grotesque refrain
My eyes no longer see the shadows
My body no longer feels the rain
I watch in awe of God's Creation
As beauty unfolds before my eyes
I'm held enthralled in love's embrace
As life and death within me vies
So much beauty gone in moments
So much beauty seen through death
As loosened arrow pierces organs
That hitherto were drawing breath

My family bows their heads in prayer
In humble thanks for their subsistence
Each in their own way identifying...
That death is part of life's existence
