My Sister
Her greatest gift came early
How fortunate for me
Being blessed with patience
Sustained her sanity.
Destined to be her shadow
Albeit sunshine, clouds, or rain
I demanded full attention
Yet so seldom she’d complain
From the time that I was born
A single room we shared
Her pretence of mere endurance
No disguise for how she cared
She walked with me each morning
Down the paths of early life
Then embarked upon her journey
Devoted teacher, mother, wife
Tirelessly giving, her heart forgiving
She’s stood by me through all
Inspiring courage to reach new heights
Knowing she’ll be there if I fall
So many miles between us
So many times I’ve missed her
Ever thankful to be blessed
With such a special sister.
Dedicated to my sister, Cathy
