Thoughts Once Kept
They say that still waters run deep
That may be why the still of sleep
Wakens me with thoughts once kept
Hidden from me while wisdom slept
For in the years of my recent youth
I lived a life that was uncouth
As I never ventured for a thought
Of things more precious than gold sought
Curious things of life and death
Of how and why we take our breath
Not excusing anything to chance
Twas He who taught the atoms to dance
Tis He from whom the life force flows
I see now; yes! He holds control
It's in His mighty outstretched hand
In His word His wise command
If we dive deep and try to see
He will surely hear our heartfelt plea
If we search our heart and mind and soul
For truth then God will not withhold
In the inner recess of our minds
I think that we might at last find
The everlasting spark of life
That will live past this mortal strife
Escaping this incarnate bondage
Leaving behind this vessel aged
To fly at last to God's dear breast
And find that sweet, eternal rest
