THE U.S.A., A POEM FOR OUR TROOPS

THE COLORS RED , WHITE, AND BLUE
    WERE SIMPLY COLORS TO ME
EVEN THOUGH THEY STOOD FOR FOR GOODNESS
    AND STRIVED FOR LIBERTY.
THE STARS AND STRIPES WERE MERELY A PRETTY DESIGN
IT SEEMED TO FIT THE PATTERN JUST RIGHT
BUT IT SERVED AS A BLANKET OF PROTECTION
AND GOT US THROUGH THE NIGHT.
EVERY PATRIOT FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME
WAVED THE FLAG WITH SO MUCH PRIDE
WITH EVERY DROP OF BLOOD THAT WAS SHED
WAS REPLACED WITH COURAGE FROM INSIDE.
FROM EVERY WAR THERE'S EVER BEEN
A CONFLICT OF INTEREST WOULD ARISE
YOU CAN GET MORE BEES WITH HONEY THAN VINIGAR
    IS SOMETHING PEOPLE MAY ADVISE.
ALTHOUGH I'M NOT HERE TO JUDGE
IF THE WAR IS RIGHT OR WRONG
I'M HERE TO THANK ALL OF YOU
    FOR JUST BEING SO STRONG.
FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO FIGHT FOR ME EVERY DAY
AFTER THE WAR ON TERRORISM IS OVER
JUST COME BACK HOME TO THE U.S.A.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
