    Poem Commentary

BEING A PARENT IS THE BEST AND THE HARDEST JOB I'LL EVER HAVE.

    A MOTHER HAS TO LEARN

    I HAVE TO SAY GOODBUY
    AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY
WHEN I WAS THE ONE TO HOLD YOU
WHEN EVER YOU HAD TO CRY.
    WE HAVE TO PART WAYS
AND ALTHOUGH I NEW IT WAS COMING
    I DID'NT IMAGINE THE PAIN I'D FEEL
    IT'S QUITE NUMBING.
    I HAVE TO SAY FAIRWELL
AND LET YOU GO ON YOUR WAY
    BUT WHEN DEEP DOWN INSIDE
    I'M BEGGING YOU TO STAY.
    BEING A MOTHER
IS THE HAPPIEST FEELING TO KNOW
BUT THE HARDEST THING I'LL EVER DO
IS TO LOOK AT YOU AND THEN LET GO.
    PEOPLE SAY IT'S NORMAL
THAT ALL BIRDS LEAVE THE NEST
BUT THE PAIN I FEEL IS HARD TO EXPLAIN
IT'S LIKE ALL OTHER PAINS ARE SECOND BEST.
SO AS I PRAY FOR YOUR SAFETY BABY
I ALSO PRAY FOR YOUR QUICK RETURN
I ALSO PRAY YOU DO A BETTER JOB THEN I
WHEN YOU INDURE THE LESSONS A MOTHER HAS TO LEARN.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
