The Dream Of Flounder
Little girl out on the pier
Granddads chuckling with their beer
"You will not catch that fish you seek"
Girl ignores and doesn't speak.
Pops shake heads and laugh once more
"One stubborn girl right to the core."
"The flounders only bite at night"
the girl says "shoosh I'll prove me right"
With pole in hand she casts the line
Bait sinks down for fish to find
She cuts them both a wretched look
Determined one will catch her hook
The sun is rising in the sky
Old men's patience starts to die
"Come, now little one let's go"
She blurts out swiftly " I say NO."
"Not until I catch that fish.
I know I will,I made a wish"
So grandpas have another drink
And hope that soon she'll reach the brink
Stand up on her own to leave
Without the fish she can't retrieve
She turns her head and looks their way
"A feast of flounder we'll have today."
They roll their eyes and all the while
Her pride within brings them a smile
When in a flash the line does wiggle
The stubborn girl lets out a giggle
Jerks the pole and reels it in
Smiles and says, "you see I win."
" Now lets go home, so you can clean
The fish that lived inside my dream."
Next time we go to fish at night
You'll wake me up before it's light."
"I'm a big girl can't you see
Just view this fish I caught for thee."
