    My Shadow

    My Shadow

Learning to breathe, watching the fall, finding myself in the midst of it all.
Found myself moving from shadow to shadow.
Til I fell in love with a shadow of who I wanted to be.
It seems to be less and less the more I look at it.

I seem to be lost here
Destined to walk in black and white

Watch colors pass me by as vapors over water.
There was color in the shadows eyes
Such colors that I'd never seen before
There was truth in the shadow's eyes
Truth I never wanted to know,
but we faced it together and things were okay again.
But The Shadow turned into a mirror
A reflection that I never hoped to see

The shadow was my friend the best of me
It was something I never hoped to understand
Something I hoped to have forever to understand
Something that disappeared right before my eyes
The eyes in a face that couldn't possibly be my own
The eyes in a face that had to be my own
    The shadow found light
    Light and shadow became one
And left me to my tears

Left me in the gray again
    So many shades of gray,
but each one drains life away like a sickness

    My shadow
    My way of life
    My past in a bottle
    My mirror

    A reflection I didn't want to see
A reflection that I needed to see
My shadow still haunts me in this world of gray
A world of gray and no distinction

My shadow still loves me in its own way
Loves me only still in these shades of gray
    Love of gray ice
    Love of gray eyes

And I love my shadow with all my heart
    And couldn't tell you why

You seem to be someone that pours herself into her work. I like the balance you wove into this piece.

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
