Poem Commentary

Written for my 17 year old one and only son, Maison during his senior year this year while struggling to get through school.

HOPE FOR MAISON by Teri Weeks

Beyond your pain and sorrow
Past today and tommorrow
There is one who watches over
and protects your from the storm.

When you feel you can't go on
When all your strength is gone
Raise your eyes to Heaven
And sing your painful song.

If I could take it all away
Erase your sadness day by day
Lift your spirit like a bird
Who soars above without a word,

I'd freely change your place with mine
Give you Maison, love for life
But only he who lives beyond
Can turn your pain into a song.

The song which turns the gray sky blue
That calms the quake inside of you
Maison hear me when I say
This will all be over in one more day.

I pray your days to be filled with joy
No more sorrows, no more void
Listen, when I say to you
Hope and Faith will pull you through!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
