Came to Believe

Poem Commentary

This poem as many of mine, have been turned into songs as well

Came to Believe

It was an After-Life experience
Full of LIght, and Hope, and Love
A Journey to another world
On a plane somewhere above

The light was bright and golden
It warmed me through and through
The colors, clear and brilliant
There was nothing I could do

But to stand there, still and frozen
An ausome sight to behold
That light so bright and golden
A voice as lovely as gold

Somehow the words transformed me
Although no words were said
I felt them speak right through me
Circulating in my head

Then the choice was given
To stay or to return
The answer came as quickly
As the question had been heard

Somehow I floated backward
Through light, fog, and snow
And soon, I was on earth again
So far, so far below

I'll forever keep inside me
This experience of life reborn
And share with those who come after
And those who've gone before

It was an After-Life experience
Full of light and hope and love
A journey to another world
On a plane somewhere above

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
