homeless man.
he walks alone, head held low.
been through things no one needs to know
his clothes dirty, hairs a mess.
his feelings mean a whole lot less.
no one knows where he's been,
he really has no next of kin.
he has no home to lay his head,
no food or drink with which to be fed.
he sits there on the street,
we pass him by, don't want to meet.
he looks at you with knowing eyes,
he lowers his head as you pass by.
you wonder why he lives this way,
you think its his fault he needs to pay.
He had to commit some awful sin,
to live alone without a friend.
you think he dosen't see you stare,
your nose held high, head in the air.
your better then him this is true,
you take a moment to give him a clue.
you let him know that he's a mess.
he needs to clean up, try his best.
thinking you've done all you can,
suddenly he smiles and takes your hand.
he looks at you without a trace,
of malice or hatred, only grace.
let me take you on a journey,
to the distant past no need to hurry.
Today i came just to see,
if you really thought you were better than me.
You see i paid a very high price.
Hung on a tree, and gave my life.
as i hung there your all i could see,
i wanted you to be happy and always free.
i never gave you any demands,
i only offered a helping hand.
your the only one i saw that day,
a price for you i was willing to pay.
just remember i loved you first.
before mom and dad, before your birth.
i gave my life for you to see,
all of life is precious to me.
even the dirty, lost and low,
give them a hand, show them the road.
feed the hungry, help the low,
a helping hand to ease the load.
this is really what you should see,
even when your looking at the least of these.
don't judge by what your eyes see,
give them the courage to be free.
just remember what you do unto others,
you do also to me.
