AWESOME! I've made it to big bucks! I'll be waiting on my deposit. cheese

BTW, I agree I'm sort of "the caretaker" here, but I will also maintain the opinion that this is the community's site. But I guess I do have to give that final "yay" on a process.

I will chime in later on more about the ideas we're talking about, but thought it would be fitting to share what I just posted on the facebook fanpage:

Recently we crossed 41,000 members, and we're nearing 110,000 poems, 2500 facebook fans, and 1000 twitter followers. Thank you for making OriginalPoetry.com a success! Please take this time to give yourselves a round of applause. We are truly thankful for our fans and members!

I love how passionate this community is. This is a long needed renewed topic, so keep it coming!

Dear Papa,

I have examined the arguments between MindNumbing, Edwinmeyer and Papa with regards to the SYSTEM of judging in the Weekly Contests.

I suggest based on their arguments that::

Only one poem per poet should be submitted weekly in the Weekly Contest.

A poet may submit the same poem for not more than three consecutive Weekly Contests.

A new panel of five judges should be appointed monthly.

A proper rating by points scale to be worked out by the OP Administration and made public to all OP members. The administration could look closer at these elements thought by Papa, and develop a rating by poiints scale that poets could rely on for credibility..

Contest Inprovements
I think we'll start here...

What we have discussed:

Poems should all fit into the same critiquing process....for example
1-Form
2- consistancy of topic
3-meter and rhyme
4-effective use of metaphore
etc............Just my thoughts

Popular voting should continue as an element, also on a separate points -scale to be worked out by the OP Administration, but should not be the decisive element in the rating by points scale of judging. Rather, the popularity vote points should be added to the other points determined by the panel of judges. I see here , however, a problem of anonymity, where a poem is published to court popular vote.

A brief report should be publshed, each time a winner is announced to indicate how the panel of judges arrived at its decision. .

The judgement of a panel must be respected as fair and final.

All entries for the Weekly Contests should be anonymous.

RE:

I like the idea of anonymity for the weekly contest -

There's some great ideas/guidelines being suggested in this thread!
