Empty Promises (Revised)
I could get down on my knees if that’s what you need...Could swallow my pride, cross my fingers, beg forgiveness
For every supposed slight against you, real or imagined.
I could promise you the moon and stars to turn around,
Could promise to reign my temper, to not get even,
And while I’m at it, let you walk all over me for a day.
I could promise to never confront you for all your lies,
Could promise away everything to serve your every whim
And to lay my life at your feet if you’d only ask. Then re-neg.
But then I’d be just like you. Unbelievable. Unexplainable. Evil.
And my heart won't let me make that mistake again
