London 2012
Silence in London as we waited for the word,
As Nelson looked down from his place with the birds.
This year was our year, to show off our city,
Waiting in baited breath, for the Olympic committee.
Her majesty’s city announced to the world,
Cheers, and screaming, as we jumped and twirled.
Plans are made for the years ahead,
‘We’ll make it like no other’ it was said.
Our history and culture was spread that first night,
As fireworks lit the sky and danced with light.
Our artists and athletes shown for the world to see,
As the flame was carried and placed on the tree.
The games were started but where was the gold?
We wondered who would be the first to break the mould,
Champions! Champions! On the water it seemed,
As our Athletes started to live up their dreams.
Run on the track, race through the streams,
As London cheered for the Great British Team.
Fight with honour, jump for the sky,
Don’t let your chance pass you by.
Sixty five was our number for Britain that year,
The best one yet, that much was clear,
A year to remember, and London was the name
Everyone spoke of, as the torch lost its flame.
