Lights Out

Poem Commentary

Sensory poem about a past experience.

Lights Out

Voices that chatter,
Diaphragms that give off giggles.
Little trickles of rain
All around me.
I , I am no longer laughing.
A nice comfort
Turns into
An evil betrayal,
Laughter to tears.
Over these cries and sighs,
Colors of white
Blind my eyes.
I can't shake the feeling,
I might not be forgiven tonight.
The scent of alcohol and piped-tobacco
Fills the room.
Paint and callused hands cover me,
Dilated eyes that crawl.
Salty dew falls against me,
Like the tears running over my top lip.
The taste of you;
Like sweet rum and disgust!
Eye-lids fluttering...
Shutters shuttering...
Lights out.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
