Poem Commentary

Just a story of Kharon and I embarking on a Journey between time and space...

Kharon was the fairest of guides to my fruition......

Upon my death I shall awaken selfish to flesh
no bells shall ring, left behind is the stress
what is left is spirit or the soul breadth
from its selfless antics that once gave me breath...
Let it begin, the end of my tormented life
full of happiness, sadness, gloom, and trice
in this I sufficed to see the sword, the knife
thus bled my veins dry on the canvas to paint strife...
Uplifted from the ground or the blackened surround
not a peep, not a sound, all is left is my soul now
I once thought the afterlife was bound to astound
take me to new heights where the circle is not round...
However in this void, annoyed I find silence
where is Kharon to escort me to the island?
Where is the river Styx of dead alliance?
Perhaps these two coins cannot beckon such science...
Kharon, Kharon, so is the name called
from my lips in guile moods, the echo paused
deep into the cataclysm of darkness falls
I see a twinkle of light, not a star, in awe....
Closer and closer it came, floating nothingness
within the abyss of the shroud, harbored this
a being of cloaked anticipation paddled with
the skeletal remains of my seven sins...
Beneath the cloak where Kharon the boatman rest
his boat was not a boat as I thought, but spirit flesh
stitched from the remains that Cerberus left
of those that tried to bring memories before death...
Without my vessel I could not feel nausea
this was favored in the sight of horror
Kharon held out his hand, it speaks without terror
from my third eye's it snatched gently the coins, what a gesture...
In this supposed pleasure, this new endeavor
the darkness set a trail, went on into forever
I floated into the rancid boat, light as a feather
the darkness smiled, I felt it, a plethora...
Off we go into the darkness supposed
Kharon, the cloaked daemon, and I, just a soul
I have paid the ferryman his two coined toll
we have reached where the river forks, where shall I go?

"This is your last chance to remain with the lost spirits"

a chill crept up my spirit's whole, he spoke but didn't see it

"The land of in-between so welcomes thee,
for the venture of not knowing rest uncomfortably
as we set at this cross road, I give you this choice
become a part of the known river, or unknown voice
for the river is not happiness nor damnation
but right or the left shall lead to only one
so make your choice wisely, we have time
for the light and darkness remain sublime"

O my what a decision to make at this divide
should I reside in purgatory, which the river inclines?
Tempting but I think I rather have what was given
in the sands of time as the soul it was written...
So I decline without speech of the sort, my third eye
it is not my choice to make, said my intuitive guise
let my soul taint your boat in hell, if where I lie
let my spirit shine light to the heavens, if there I fly...
Kharon turns to me, so it seemed in the darkness
without much effort he paddled without guess
to the left he journeyed us in the vessel of flesh
the paddle strokes without aid to his contest...
It appears he placed a spell, on this journey I rest
the sleeping spirit, what a metaphor, this is a guess
but as I awoke to see his darkened cloak
he turned and pulled it back, this I note
the end of the journey was here I was sure
for the light that highlighted darkness appeared
but it was not what thought, or what you are thinking
for resting at the gates of hell, Cerberus was waiting....

Among the list of commonalities you can add the love of mythology and the Ferryman in particular. I find the almost dichotomist nature of the two worlds to be intriguing and the Ferryman an Ambassador of sorts between the two. Fascinating read man. I enjoyed it! ~One

[Upon my death I shall awaken selfish to flesh] - Fluid with the first line, and the rest tumbles into place afterwards. Man I do love some Greek myth. Love reading it and writing it. This is an epic piece man, individual to its own right. A twisted journey that keeps the mind on tilt, unexpected. What exactly is friend and foe, the Cereberus thought gone ends up the one anticipating the arrival (if I read that correctly). It is inspirational to see skill craft a unique story from other canon. Like molding an idea into a new idea. Loved the journey. [Closer and closer it came, floating nothingness within the abyss of the shroud, harbored this a being of cloaked anticipation paddled with] - Smooth smooth line. the skeletal remains of my seven sins...

[Closer and closer it came, floating nothingness within the abyss of the shroud, harbored this a being of cloaked anticipation paddled with the skeletal remains of my seven sins] - Added it again. It cut out the last line. :)

Much appreciated L, yea this was a lot of fun to write, I am a huge fan of mythology and the boatman perhaps always interested me the most because of his bipolar existence, such dualities always interest me...guess I am just weird like that...haha

A journey of the end of the beginning. Beautifully described, yet still mystically curious. Such metaphors of an awing darkness, tranquil and mysterious. Brilliantly expressed, love. Loved it.

This road may be the road for alot of souls, if no one have love or forgiveness, each thought we have, and each action, is cructial. I am impressed by this, and very impressed by alot of lines, to me this is a winner, it is.... thanks for the invite, and reads, I have been so busy, not much time for anything, :) ty WS
