innocent

innocent

her face is casted down in pain,
she's lost all hope,
her friend,
sister,
partner in crime,
is gone.

they spent so much time together,
they were inseparable.
the were the craziest pair of chicks alive.
but things soon changed.
one lies beneath the ground,
while the other rots in jail.
as she sits there, she's asking,
screaming at herself:
why did she do this to them?
why did she get them involved?
so the innocent in in the ground,
and guilty trapped behind bars,
when it should have been the other way around,
then the innocent would be let free.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
