The Bible can evoke fear in the hearts of its believers as well as non-believers. All you have to do is read Matthew chapter 24 and the entire book of Revelation. If this surprises you because of my earlier post, don't be...I was raised in church and am quite educated when it comes to matters of the Bible/Jesus/Religion. And since Wordslinger carries his "beast" with him, I'm sure others scoff at him, perhaps even fear him, ridicule him...just as I'm sure others respect him for having the guts to be so upfront and outspoken about his beliefs. If you read this, Wordslinger, have I accurately described what you meant by "beast"? |

We always use the word Beast derogatively in Jamaica. e.g, You are a beast! What a beastly act! etc. And of course, th e word Beast has sinister implications in Revelation, ( Rev. 13) Last edited by cousinsoren 05-20-2009 at 06:38:34 AM |

God's ways are not our ways, and our small finite little brains cannot possibly comprehend his plans or actions. The more you get to know God the more you understand this. At any rate, trying to apply man's logic to God simply will not work...even God says he will make the "intellectual" scratch his head, and all the "head knowledge" is but folly... Wordslinger you speak truth; My husband, (thug in semi-retirement) used to call his bible his sword, and used to carry it with him everywhere he went....no shame in his game! His old buddies used to trip because they only knew one side of this man who did many wrong things...and then here he comes, back into their 'hood carrying a bible and talking about God?? He didn't care, it was "take me as I am or go on about your business"...so my respect to you for acknowledging something that in these times is becoming increasingly unpopular....but then we already knew that was coming, didn't we? And Cousinsorensin (sp); I know what you mean about the connotations of the word "Beast"; I too, tend to think of it in that way, however, it can also be applied in a manner which says, "Here is my bible - my attack dog - my beast - who will stand strong against anything and help me to fight all that is evil"...for we also all know that there is great spiritual warfare going on all around us. Your "testimony" is well taken, sk. Glad to hear that your husband redeemed himself, and in turn , was freed by CHRIST. You're helping me to comorehend WordSlingers' "Beast" and I appreciate it. Amen. Thanks. READ MY POEM. Ballad of Redemption Song. I am looking for my notes on the Redemption Monument, consisting of two giant nudes, male and female, in Emancipation Park, Kingston, Jamaica. |

I cannot foresee doing that to either one of my sons, or granddaughters, or nephews. As for the whole God/Jesus/Heaven/Hell/death debate, all I can say is this...the longer I live, and the more things I see in person and on TV, the injustices done to human beings, innocent human beings, the more I wonder...why doesn't God step in? For example...a small child is kidnapped, raped, and murdered. Where is God when that happens? If there is indeed such an all knowing, all mighty, all powerful, omnipotent God, then don't you think He could choose to save that child some how from the hands of the sick mind delivering the torture??? It's things like that that bug me. And what about all the accounts of ghosts? If we are destined for only one of two places when we die, then how do you explain ghost sightings??? Why didn't THEY go to either heaven or hell??? If anyone has any answers to these questions I would be eternally grateful, because at this point I'm convinced that when we die all we do is lay in the ground and rot. If my mom ever reads this she will probably freak and beat me with her Bible because I was raised in church, but like I said, I have just seen too much and been through too much. Or maybe I just think too much. Comments, anyone??? 'Love your openness my dear. It's the kind of world the fantasy machine in Hollywood has a loss of income from, if the world of ghosties is taken out of the picture. Nowadays we have CGI of violent machinery to keep our imaginations busy, but ghosts have factored into the box office enormously throughout the decades. Along with these images comes the more sinister "the underworld creatures". who occupy themselves with badgering the living by telling half truths and outright lies, and [trying to make our lives hell on earth if you will]. Your Mother has a biblical precedent there with the ghosties not being real ... One exception to talking with the dead?, God's one time divine exception for communicating with the dead was with the spiritual ruler of Israel Samuel. When Israels first King, (who was mentored by this Samuel) was in a state of mental anguish he visited a white witch in Endor who would [in prior days of freedom, be hired to "communicate" with the dead]. The number one problem with trying to "communicate with the dead" in those times was that because of the writings in the book of Leviticus such practices were among those listed as an abomination to God and those who practice this are under a curse from God and all such seers where banished from Israel. Countermanding his own enforcement of this law, King Saul sought out this woman in hiding while in a disguise. The reason for the banishment can be attributed to the passage stating that there is a gulf between the living and the dead which no man can bridge. It's mentioned also in the New Testament. This precludes any reality of dead to living interplay. In modern times it's quite accepted and now it's a question of ... is it real or is it fakery. There is some in the camp of ... "There is nothing supernatural - everything can be explained should the right information be revealed." Some are in the camp of ... "Well - I don't know, I think it's possible." Some are party to the experiential - the seekers of the force, and there are the happenstance individuals who's hairs on the backs of their necks rose when when they walked into a strange house with rooms that felt like someone left the freezer open, or heard strange half animal groans when there were no animals in the building. My mother has been dead now for several years. She began investing her energies into delving in the supernatural. Among the "spirit guides" she claimed to have had, were an Irishman, a delicate Spaniard girl, and someone who wasn't into telling much about himself. After four years of seeking out enlightenment the stage was being set for proselytizing. She was being groomed for the position of chief overseer in The Divine Light Order in Arizona. She had been promised a mantle and "giftings" As it was- the small time healings she was able to perform were only a pre-cursor for the greatness to come. It was a closed shop for the general public but she often shared things with me. At the time I was newly inducted into the flock of what was known as "Jesus Freaks" run by a lanky Texican with the trademark hippy hair and beard. The place was warm with the love of Jesus and I was peaceful and very reflective as I recall. I never preached to Mom as some of the kids did with their parents but I knew that something major was wrong. Several months before I flew down to her fledgling hotel set-up, she was told by one of her internal guides, that a helpmate would be hers. To aid in the selection the guide gave her two rare Spanish words to remember. If a man should speak these to you within the next two weeks - this should be the one for you. Turned out to be a reality, she married this strange Californian man and I came to stay for a few months while I operated a small screen printing business down there. One day I interrupted her dissertation to inform her ..." The spirit that I serve is not the same spirit that's working on you! " She sat bolt upright like someone put a gun to her back. Long story shortened ... The Californian man was a hindrance not a help to her, she kicked him out. Months later he skulked around the property. He came knocking on her door demanding to know why. Why what? [ In the few conversations I had with him I never understood anything he tried to say. He was simply a bizarre human being whom I was uncomfortable with] Bottom line ... he pulled out a gun and shot her. She wasn't dead. She ran through the open door - he swung around and pumped two more bullets into her back, then put the muzzle to his forehead and send himself into oblivion as well. My dear - this is not the spiritual leading anybody needs! There is a supernatural and it's on a mission to destroy ... not to build up trust if only to get to the destroying part of its misson. As far as understanding the heinous mistreatment amongst Gods creations goes, the investigation is ongoing. I wish I could offer more answers. The one thing which could be said, seems to be fodder for the furnace with most agnostics - and that's ... Since God respects the "gift" of freewill he has bestowed upon us He will not intervene until someone prays. Sounds terrible to some ears but that a basic truth as I have grown to understand it. Re: Epiphany: How can one wind up in Hell?NevillePark that is a bone chilling story, for truth usually is far scarier than anything Hollywood can create; I too have had a couple of experiences that defy logical explanation....the story is too long to relate here, but lets just say I should not have been surprised to encounter a demon while in a temple dedicated to human sacrafice...on the other hand, I also had a wonderful encounter just 9 short yrs ago....if at any time I forget who I am or what my destiny is, I recall that memory and everything is well with me again.... |

Your very existance, merely means you are here along with all the rest of us. not above us and not below us. first of all i will ask you a simple question, pertaining to the word (God) be truthful to your self when you answer it. how many times out of the blue in most any circumstance has the word just popped out of your mouth or in your thoughts? the words of Paul, and Matthew, Mark, Luke, a couple different Johns, not to mention the thoughts and interpretations of the first 500 years worth of priests and scribes interpreting it however they wanted to..also according to the word of God,these Men wrote under the anointing of the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit, of the All Mighty God.They were inspired or breathed upon,True prophets or men of God, speaking with the authority of.Not their own words but what was given to them, what they actually saw and heard. as far as good goes thats what I believe.(and from with in my self truly know) according to the word of God and the understanding he gave to me there is none good not you not me not the president, and not any one (Mat 19:17 ) And also,I believe God is in us all whether we accept it or not, unless we be reprobates and that is when God turned us over to the evil one and seperated us from his presence. (2Co 13:5 ) The Flood? thats a good one. prove there wasn't a flood, that only noah, his wife, his three sons and their three wives, survived, and let us not forget the creatures. how ever according to history's findings, they have found large water creatures (fossils) in deserts and mountains and many places where they ought not be, but then again they also say they found a lot of ridiculous looking dino's also. But it don't matter to me what they say as much as what they can not say. It's not what we know or see but what we believe,The Just shall live by Faith and without God I dont have any nor would I want any. what is so great or believable in this cracked up world that one would not want to believe in the Great and Terrible God and his Christ our Lord Jesus Christ. all things were created by him and for him,and every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess unto him. I have had people who seen the bible with me ,and ask me to read a verse or 2 Or even pray with them. As of yet no ridicule. And in my bio I mention I fought demons And it's true. Since I posted here on Alexs question, I have already been tested by the -negative forces, so it is no joke. So I ask all to take it serious. And as for now this is all I have to say. Upslady yes is your answer -As of yet no ridicule Wordslinger, that is fascinating!!! And to NevillePark...my mother always told me that it IS in the bible that there are "restless spirits" roaming the earth...what do you make of that? And my husband just died 2 months ago...chillingly enough, he told me not long before to "not put away my black dress because I would be a widow soon." I have reason to believe he played a part in his own death by not taking his medications...however...still being his legal wife, I had to take care of arrangements. I had to have him cremated, and I have his ashes in my living room. The first week or two they were there, it really bugged me, and honestly, kind of freaked me out. HOWEVER...recently, there have been strange happenings in my house and I have to wonder if it's him doing it. The other morning I woke at 5:20 to what sounded like someone banging on my front door. When I got up and looked, no one was there. I have also heard what sounds like footsteps shuffling through my house, as well as things being moved, and I have also seen flashes of white from the corner of my eye, as well as SOMETHING that looks like it is moving, also from the corner of my eye. So that's kind of creeping me out. My sister believed in ghosts...so did my grandmother, and she was one of the holiest people I knew. She said certain people are born with a "veil" over their face and that means that they have certain "gifts". My sister and I have a gift...we hear "death bells" (our ears ring so badly to the point of being painful, and when that happens, it means someone we know will die soon). My grandmother had a gift of removing warts...and on and on. So how do you explain these anomalies? Because I would never attribute all of them to being something evil. And Wordslinger, I too have slept with a Bible under my pillow...my parents have witnessed demons in their bedroom, as well as angels who showed up to fight the demons. And my mother has told me, if there is a spirit present in your house, all you have to do is say, "What in the name of God do you want?" and it either has to tell you or leave. I would be too afraid to ask because I personally do want it to present itself. Comments on any of this, anyone? |

Where did you get that from? I didn't say you were evil, I didn't accuse anyone of anything, and I most certainly made no allusions to being above or below anybody......... so either I am no good at typing up a legible train of thought into a "forum essay", or you possibly misread what I said? Please, where did you get all that from? Quote: first of all i will ask you a simple question, pertaining to the word (God) be truthful to your self when you answer it. how many times out of the blue in most any circumstance has the word just popped out of your mouth or in your thoughts? My simple answer (I hate it when people say honestly, it's like saying I am used to lying but just this once I will be honest.. At best you wouldn't know if you were lying to yourself anyways, would you?) is all the time. I was raised in a culture and home where we gave reverance to the all knowing and all seeing superpower all the time. I also cry out for my mother when I am bleeding profusely (apparently, I don't remember)... The reason for both is simple.. Programming. I have been programmed. Otherwise people that don't speak english would use the same word. As I said before, explaining this is kinda lengthy and sorta aloof, so I will stop now and on to the next paragraph. Quote: what is so great or believable in this cracked up world that one would not want to believe in the Great and Terrible God and his Christ our Lord Jesus Christ. Well you answer that question with your next statement... Quote: all things were created by him and for him,and every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess unto him.Isa 45:23,Rom 14:11,Phi 2:9 thru Phi 2:13 ,Col 1:16 That's the statement that always gets me. It's always quoted as if it is the definitive proof that I, and other good hearted non-religious people like me, are just sinners who haven't come to terms with the fact that God IS. I suppose it is just baffling that a person like me, or some of my atheist, agnostic, and other non-religious friends are automatically inserted, by you, into the same group as "reprobates" simply because we deny the presence of your invisible GOD. I suppose if there were people worshipping an invisible pink elephant in the sky, I would be just as confounded by them, and would probably offend them as well when discussing something with them. But you won't convince me that there is a pink elephant in the sky either, right? As I said before, I didn't want to argue with you, which is kinda why I posted something I had written elsewhere regarding logic and reasoning, ethics and morals. We (mankind) can get along fine without some great buggaboo in the sky threatening us with eternal damnation. We are just creatures, this is all that we can be SURE that we have.. Let us not waste THIS LIFE worrying about storing up riches in some mystical (possibly falsely conceived and definitely totally unproovable) AFTERLIFE. There is no such thing as heaven or hell. There, I said it. Now I truly hope that this didn't make you mad, Sir.. I was TOTALLY not out to offend you... I was trying to offer up the best logic I could without ruffling any feathers the first time. You stated that you "had not the foggiest idea what I just said", and I got a touch overzealous in pontificating, I suppose.. But I really didn't mean to get your dander up all that bad.. You didn't get my feathers ruffled, and you DID lump me in with the "evil reprobates" of the world. You also opened yourselve up for plenty of criticism when you said you believe "every word of the bible".. There's plenty of falsehood there. It's a series of manmade documents that has been carefully pieced together and compiled to keep you befuddled and confounded so you would be OK with all the injustice you deal with every day. I am happy to continue a conversation with you regarding this, but I am afraid we have probably worn out our welcome on this thread. If you wish to continue I am sure you could start another thread, or PM me, but I would like to request that we abide by the following conversational/debate suggestions: Because science is predicated upon observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena -- evidence is important in establishing claims. Positive assertions of fact or truth require reasonable, demonstrable levels of evidential support. Positive claims made in this conversation should be supported whenever possible, and particularly when a claim is questioned. Glad we could talk, sorry again if anything I said riled you.. Consider reading Breaking a Bad Belief Structure for more clarification. After all, if you were lying to yourself, how would you know? Last edited by CadillaCricket 05-21-2009 at 09:26:17 PM |

Re: Epiphany: How can one wind up in Hell?Again, an interesting website for those who are interested in all sides of these types of theological wanderings (agnostics and atheists included...for they have a theology as well though they would be reluctant to admit it sometimes) is shipoffools.com. |

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
