Forbidden
They laughed and talked and were silent
together
and they promised each other all the same
things.
They were close, getting closer,
they were young, they were timeless.
And they planned and dreamed and raved
together
and they saw and understood all the same
things.
They were close, but no closer,
they were foolish, they were wise.
And they fought to defend their right to be
together
and in losing the fight, they lost all of those
things.
They were close, but no longer,
they were winners, they are losers.
