A Smile From a Veil
You, who knows so much,
I wonder if you can tell:
Hate from a lover’s kiss,
Heaven from hell.
And can you tell:
Rain from a sunny day,
A smile from a veil,
Could you tell me anyway?
Do you know what happens if
All of us died this very day?
If we packed all our little things,
And just went away?
What can you say about me?
About what I mean to you,
Can you tell me what that means?
Can you begin to construe?
You say you know many things,
But do you know what matters most?
Do you know what changes lives?
And how to find what is lost?
How I long for you to know.
To understand the words I speak,
To know the right things to say,
To take my role, find what I seek,
But now I know;
You’ll never understand,
You don’t know the differences
Between want and can,
Between hell’s fire and peace,
And this life from any other,
A tired mind from a weary soul,
A tear from a child or a lover.
So, you, who knows so much,
I wonder if you can tell
Hate from a lover’s kiss,
Heaven from hell.
And can you tell:
Rain from a sunny day,
A smile from a veil,
Could you tell me anyway?
