Youth Deflowered

Youth Deflowered

Moons for the satiated,
Stars for the never-born;
Flowers for the future-fated,
Laughter for the lovelorn.

Eyes that never see nor can,
Thoughts that do not wish to;
Arms that rarely hold a man,
Body full of youth dew.

Memories of a day that's past,
Hours stretched to breaking;
Wanting to be free at last,
Fears with dusk still waiting.

Comes a madman in a dream,
Tainted smile by a snear;
Throws her lust, or so it seems,
When hopes of love she hears.

She fights the need for his delight,
A prisoner of his passion;
She strains and craves to see dawn's light,
To make this dream unfasten.

He holds her hard with all his power,
She cries out for release;
Soon she'll give him youth's sweet flower,
And relinquish all her peace.

The afterbirth of all that's done
Is lapping at her lips;
For now she's added to the ones
Who's wine has just been sipped.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
