Your Escape
You thought I was asleepWhen you made your escape
You left softly, not a sound
Not a single floorboard creak
But I felt you leave my side
That desolate escape of warmth
A wave of air slaps my back
We didn't work, but honey, I tried.
A blanket of loneliness covers my body
On this empty bed you've left
Light from the hallway hits the broken door
And I can hear your car start
A tear or two slide my cheek
As I know this is the end
But I just can't take this again
Once more labeled heartbroken
I walk into the night to scream at the stars
It's become a routine
Still, they twinkle in response
Healing my broken wounds
