Poison
In a ball, a masquerade,Everyone with their own facade.
This midnight lie will never end,
For yourself, you have to fend.
A man in a mask waltzes up,
"Can I get you a drink in a cup?"
Yes, you say, what harm is there?
Little do you know, life's not fair.
The thick red wine swirling around,
You don't hear a single sound.
Onto your lips the poison pours,
Rushing at you is the floor.
Your eyes are closed, your hair a mess,
That red poison stained your dress.
Above you, vile laughter is heard,
Your eyes can't open, your body burns.
Pain is spreading, more and more,
This isn't a book of forest lore.
Someone pulls open a single eyelid,
All of these images you want rid.
Dances by dim candlelight,
Light dresses in dark night.
Masks and laughs and pearls falling,
Across the room the violins sing.
They drop your head back, uncaring.
The people are now done staring.
You're laying in blackness all alone,
In despair you fall, want to let go.
You feel the poison shutting you down,
Your ears are shutting out all sound.
Your senses are dying, falling away,
But you know you'll live another day.
