    Poem Commentary

Doesn't this remnd you of the days when someone cared

    Peek a Boo

Peek a boo I see you
    Looking back at me
    In my baby dreams
    In my childhood youth
    You played peek a boo
    With me

Your first peek was my face
    Staring back at you
    We'd played around  the corners
    Through my life

My first trike ride was quite trip
    I saw you peeking
    Through the window
There you were waving back at me

    My first dance
    My first date you chaperoned
Playing a game of a different sort
    Your own peek a boo

Then on my own I ventured off
    College bound
I had a place of my own
I thought I saw you drive by
Were you playing peek a boo

You were always there just for me
    Playing your little game
To see if I was okay

    Taking care of you
Now I finely see just why
    You played that game
As you lie old in your bed
I cross your room to see
    I find myself playing
    Peek a boo
    To see if your okay

This poem is so sentimentally poignant! Peek-a-boo is a game in which one hides one's body, and repeatedly, then suddenly pops into sight. Betty has captured the mood very well. in relating some one ( a parent?) who watched over the stages and developmental activities of her life. In Jamaiaca we say, "Whatever goes around , vomes around,:" It is now the poet' time to watch over those who used to watch over her. For perfect and pleasing poetic skill, my rating is 10+

A touching display of the infant peek a boo game - all grown up. Charming.

Okay, that's not really a tear in my eye right now.... I'm just sadly smiling in appreciation for your sentiment - I pay you high compliments for words so beautifully hidden then revealed in an artful game of life long peek a boo's! 10 from me for letting the reader take a peek

Thank you Rymer I appreciate the comment.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
