My Bonds Lay Broken
My bonds lay broken,
My wings freed, yet sore:
They ache from disuse.
It has not been long
Since I have felt
That burden, that weight,
So far from forgotten.
Atlas was I—
That worldly weight
Upon his shoulders
His eternal punishment,
But mine no more.
My joy is an aura,
Radiant as the stars
That dot the walls
Of Atlas’s celestial jail.
My bonds lay broken,
My wings freed, I soar
Away from the place of abuse.
