midnight suprise
Father it is cold now,
why midnight have you chosen?
The gound now crackles under foot
everything feels frozen
The trees are bare, with few leaves
the ones still there are brown
The rest have stored themselves beneath
the fresh snow on the ground
The moon has shown us all there is
but nothing stirs this night
I would guess the likely cause
is jack frosts nippy bite
With a slightly muted chuckle
he tilted back his hat
He wondered how she breathed between
the words of this and that
Gently he then touched her lips
said sissy close your eyes
leave your ears to learn the tale
of this nights surprise
At first her face was without thought
she then produced a frown
She heard it once and then again
a scratching, raspy sound
She chanced a peek with one eye
to see a tiny mouse
Busy was he working now
building his new house
You see now we need not complain
of snow and ice this night
For somewhere in most all of time
a life is in delight
