Broken Dreams

I put all my dreams in one basket.
I tripped and fell in the night.
Now there all broken,
my dreams,
there all broken;
I'll start again,
with the coming light.

First I'll fix myself a cup of coffee,
sit back and think about my life,
just where I've been
and where it is I'm goin',
now I'm just me,
and not someone’s wife.

All my dreams are broken,
they’re but pieces of my past.
New dreams I recognize growin'.
The new dreams,
I'm thinking,
are showing first light.
Where they'll lead,
there's no way of knowing.

Now I'll fix myself that cup of coffee,
sit back and think about my life,
just where I've been
and where it is I'm goin',
now I'm me,
and not just someone’s wife.

Beautiful of way of putting the life a typical woman's day together. The smell of coffee brews in my mind and brings me good memories. I love this poem.

Much contemplation about life comes over that cup of coffee and we are not always satisfied with what we see.

A fine differentiation between night dreams and daydreams. the time for new dreams is early when there is alertness and vigor. And sometimes java helps too.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
