A SONNET FOR rEY
A Sonnet For Rey
When all is quiet
and all I remember is a young man
in brown leather jacket;
whose curly black hair
was dripped in rain shower,
his eyes looking straight right at mine.
So shy I can’t look back,
But deep in my heart,
I know I had wanted to know him.
Yet young as I was
And scared of the future,
I said “no”, and then bade him goodbye.
He walked out the door,
his eyes kept on blinking
from tears that he forced not to drop.
And I in my bedroom
Was quietly thinking,
Had I been a fool?,
I hoped not.
Now thirty years later
Our paths crossed again.
At Facebook we met
Friendship flourished.
For though in our youth days
we lacked certain courage,
as we aged we found self-esteem.
Now gone are the barriers
that kept us from knowing
what really matters in life.
We share all life’s lessons
we’ve learned on our journey
and thankful that now we found time.
Time to be friends now,
Time to be laughing
At youth’s wistful errors and ways.
And though we can never
go back to that heyday
we’re thankful at least
we have NOW.
