When The Fruit Has Ripened
The bough breaksWhen the fruit
Has ripened.
Maybe it's just
A premonition
Sanctioned
By promises.
Plants wither
And bear themselves
The fruit of eternity
Embalmed
In a mortal frame.
When The Fruit Has Ripened
The bough breaksPoetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
