    Us

    Today, I awoke
He layed beside me and he barely spoke
    I sense he is unhappy

How do I make him move forward
He says he has nowhere he wants to move toward
Content with sitting idle and quiet
Picking up a cigarette asking me if I have a light

This day is like each one before
We awake and open our eyes
Knowing we live one big lie

    Time is moving so fast
Sitting silently and making no contact
Us searching our minds for happier times past
    Remembering why we are here

My head is full of nothing
His heart is overflowing with loathing
No need to talk and out the door I walk

Our paths will not pass this day
Until the sun sinks and the sky becomes dark
Then into the night we will embark
Still searching for something to say

How long will this go on
Each of us feeling so alone
Asking ourselves is it worth this pain

As the moon rises above us a shadow it cast
The night grows longer and more dark
We lay down for the night wishing we could talk
    Silently looking at the ceiling

How much more precious time will we waste
Neither one of us moves with haste
    Comfortable with each other
Deciding to stay and realizing why bother

It's not worth it When it gets to this point. I've been there. It'll never work when one loses love for the other.

reality is an extremely hard bite

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
