Lost Youth
Your youth has gotten up and walked out the doorFor you to enjoy nevermore
Down the path of prolonged life you shall walk alone
and never again shall your youth pass by, no matter
how hard you might cry
Before you could blink an eye the days
had passed and your youth has deserted you
Taking along your hair, teeth and vision and
leaving you with aches and pains and absolutely no clue.
Walking along you may feel a little discomfort
when it rains
Althought your youth has walked out on you, never
fear you can always rely upon your trusty cane
They say the mind is the first to go and now you can speak
as if you really know
As your youth and your memory are walking hand in hand
down the road away from you
On the day when you think your life could not ever by any worse
someone finds you wondering aimlessly around the 9th hole
Having forgotten why you were at your favorite club
knowing that is par for the course
Like an old friend who occasionally drops by
your youth is only a memory away
If only you could remember when you last saw it
and where you may have stored it for a rainy day
The road to the future is lonely and desolate completely
devoid of your much missed youth and vigor
If you slow down and rest for very long the knocking you
hear will most likely be rigor
Look around each corner and check each dark
room before you lay down to sleep
Watch each step you take as you know everything
you sow you must reap
Tick, tock, tick, tock, the clock is ticking and the timekeeper
never rests
Your destiny may seem quite grim once you realize you
cannot run from him
