The family that waits for you
I keep falling back to the guilt in my mind,I can't figure out why I care.
I mean, go ahead and leave your old life behind.
Maybe I'll just stay and wait there.
I'll stand behind the person I knew,
We'll both wait for you to come home.
It may be just a shell, a shadow of you,
But it's better then waiting alone.
I want to hold your hand down this dark path you walk,
I want to protect you from the fall just ahead.
But I can't walk down that dark path with you,
So I'll wait here and pray for you instead.
God, keep you close and keep me sane,
As I spend each day waiting for you.
Keep the warmth of my love and the strength from above,
and try and think of what you're putting us through.
Try and remember who loves you as you push us away,
try and think of the great times we've had.
Try and remember your brother, your sister and mother,
Hold on tight to that last hug from dad.
Please follow the light that you see up ahead,
don't let the Devil block out your view,
In the light, you'll find me and that's just where I'll be,
Praying, and waiting for you.
This poem is to all of those people out there that deal every day with a drug addiction. The addicts, the families and the people who care. Take a moment to pray for us. Take a moment to try and understand how hard it can be to face and overcome an addiction. Try and think about how much strength it takes for a mother to hold on to her sanity as her child slowly dies. And how much courage a friend has to conjure up to tell you, how much they want you back. God, grant us the serentiy to accept the things we CANNOT change, the Courage the Change the things we CAN, and the wisdom to know the difference. To all our families, friends and even the strangers out there fighting that battle.... Come home to us.
