    Temptress

    Temptress

all the pictures of life i see,
    behind darkly stained glass
    framed in stillborn wishes
    that never come to pass

    the fate of my heart
    tattooed on my soul
    in bold black letters
    of love I'll never know

    darkness my only lover
    Caresse's me with tears
    whispers cold promises
    molests me with fears

    she kisses me deeply
    with sadness so pure
    and ask me temptingly
    "Oh, can you endure?"

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
